Lux Grand Gaube: Back to Mauritius, back to paradise!

It‘s been a month since we‘re back from Mauritius and although I wanted to post this blog post earlier, I really wanted to go through all the photos and collect all the memories before I share them with you. We‘ve been to Mauritius last year for our wedding and honeymoon and we never thought we‘ll be back to celebrate our first anniversary on this beautiful island. Last year we stayed at Shangri La Mauritius and although we loved it, this year we wanted to visit other side of the island and we were searching for a kids friendly hotel. One thing led to another and we found a perfect place to be – Lux Grand Gaube. We were quite lucky that we found a free room, as the hotel itself is super busy the whole season, but I guess it was meant to be. I consider Mauritius as our home away from home and we couldn‘t be happier to found the place that we want to go back to. Every year.

Lux Grand Gaube resort is situated on the northern part of the island, where the weather is supposedly sunnier and it‘s one of the three resorts on the island. LUX* Belle Mare, LUX* Le Morne, and LUX* Grand Gaube are three of the best luxury beach resorts in Mauritius (as per TripAdvisor’s Popularity Index ranking). LUX* Belle Mare is located on the east coast of Mauritius, LUX* Le Morne is in the south west of the island, and LUX* Grand Gaube, as mentioned, is in the north. It takes 1 hours and 15 minutes to reach it from the airport and 40 minutes from Port Louis – the capital. There are plenty transport options to choose from at the airport, however, we booked it in advance here.

The designer Kelly Hoppen created an electric retro-chic lifestyle in the rooms that transfers a sophisticated yet informal atmosphere. They offer from Superior room to Lux and Ocean Villa, depending on your budget – you can check the prices here. We stayed in Superior room for the first few nights and Ocean Junior Suite for the rest of our stay. We loved both. Superior room is basically the most affordable option, but it actually offers everything you need. Also one of the things I really love is that all the rooms have an ocean view. I mean, no one want to travel that far and have any other room view, right? For the second part of our stay we got upgraded to Ocean Junior Suite and this room was goals. Do I need to say more? Pictures talk for themselves.

Once you’re at Lux Grand Gaube you hardly get bored. Resort has so many things to offer – different restaurants and bars, two pools – one is in adults area, cinema, live music every night, SPA, library, golf and tennis court, gym, windusrfing, … Well it’s actually pretty hard to enjoy all of them. One of the things I loved was famous in-house Café Lux bar. They offer locally roasted coffee specialties that made my day start on the right foot.

No more words needed for this except A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Delicious, fresh, varied. They offer so many different things that you hardly try all of them in one week or ten days, but some of my favorite things at the hotel when it comes to food were mango and papaya jam and fresh exotic fruits as papaya, mango, dragon fruit, watermelon, etc. in the morning and fresh sea food, steaks and super yummy and unique salads, made by chef in front of your eyes. Food at Lux Grand Gaube is definitely just one of the things that makes you wanna come back.

One of the things we didn’t event think about before we booked was how kids friendly the hotel is. Well we never needed baby service before which is why I brought everything for Liam with me – from babycook to some veggies, but you can get EVERYTHING there. You can even call the baby room service an hour before and they get ready puree from the ingredients you want and get it delivered to your room, beach, pool … well wherever you wish to. Also, they have a KIDS CLUB, where they do different activities, from drawing, hiding, playing, doing sports, water activities, reading club, cinema, etc. It is for 3+ years old children so I cannot wait for Liam to be a little older, so he can join the other kids. For younger kids you can hire a nanny for an affordable price of 10 euros per hour.

The Lux Grand Gaube Resort made my last visit to Mauritius unforgettable and I promise once you visit it you will never want to leave again. I want to visit other locations too, but I am so looking forward to be back. Check their page here to get more info about prices, bookings, etc.

This was really helpful review! We’re just choosing the perfect location for our little family to go on Mauritius in autumn (November) and knowing that they have activities for the kids and shadow in the pool was a breaker. Booking these days, thanks for the review 🙂
